BIPOC Love

Hello loves!

How are you? More than ever, I’m all the things. Relaxed, anxious, inspired, hopeful, scared, doubtful, joyful, angry, focused, scattered… Sometimes I feel like I am walking uphill through sludge and need to lie down for naps at surprising times. And other times I feel like I am flying.

Perhaps you can relate. There’s a lot to FEEL right now. And I’m trying to let myself feel it all without judgment or shoulds. I encourage you to do the same. It’s how we show love to ourselves.

Speaking of showing love… In the wake of the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and too many other BIPOC, Seth and I—like so many white Americans—are waking up. We are feeling the pain that the systemic racism in this country has been perpetuating for over 400 years, and we are acknowledging our complicity in it.

We are feeling the enormity of the project of dismantling the structures and ideas that perpetuate institutionalized racism and bigotry, including those that live inside ourselves. And we aim to support and participate in the creation of new societal structures that value, support, celebrate, and protect the lives of black, brown, trans, and other marginalized folks.

While the task of evolving our culture of inequity into a culture of care for all beings is daunting, we will not let the magnitude of the the work to be done intimidate us into inaction. No matter how small our contributions may feel, we will make them, trusting that if enough people do the same, our collective energies will turn the world. Let’s turn the world!

Harvest.

Harvest.

As one of our efforts, we will dedicate the new BIPOC LOVE page on our website to a featured BIPOC (bi-racial, indigenous, people of color) organization, leader, or business each month. We will also have a monthly raffle, the proceeds of which will go to that month’s featured organization.

That organization, business, or individual will also receive a wellness gift from us. In this way, we hope to bring awareness to some of the many incredible folks and organizations working to create a more just world, to financially support BIPOC, to spread our love and beauty beyond the reach of our privileged little bubble, and to encourage you do to the same!

July’s Featured Organization

EQUITABLE GIVING CIRCLE

Fresh veggies for all!

Fresh veggies for all!

The Portland, Oregon-based Equitable Giving Circle is a nonprofit whose “aim is to empower BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) communities in Portland by leveraging economic deposits from communities of privilege to empower BIPOC communities and begin to move towards economic equity. Shifting economic power will create ripples of real change.”

Their programs include Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), Long-Term Stabilization (housing security), and Diversity/Equity/Inclusion Education. We love all the work they are doing, and as farmers of food and plant medicine, we are particularly excited to support their CSA program!

All donations to that program are used to buy boxes of fresh veggies grown by BIPOC farmers. Those CSA shares are then gifted to BIPOC families who have been hit hard by COVID-19 and are facing food insecurity. We love how directly our contributions benefit farmers and families!

In addition, the Giving Circle’s CSA program will provide protein/pantry boxes, culturally specific delivery services by Black Food Sovereignty Coalition, Garden Week in mid July, micro Grants for BIOPOC farmers, and partnership with Operation Back to School to give BIPOC kids backpacks.

If you’d like to support this wonderful organization AND have a chance to win some wellness goodies for yourself, head on over to our shop to buy a raffle ticket or ten! Drawing will be held August 3rd.

Be well, in love and beauty.

xoxo Becca and Seth
