CBD Hemp

Happy hemp on our farm in the Little Applegate Valley of Southern Oregon.

How does CBD work?

Human bodies have a natural affinity for CBD hemp because we all have natural cannabinoids and receptors for them distributed throughout our entire bodies. Our endogenous (or internally arising) cannabinoids are anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving, and support mood, relaxation and sleep. Receptors for them are found in our brains, bones, nervous systems, immune cells, and other organs throughout the body.

THC has been the most well known chemical compound found in cannabis until recently. The difference between THC and CBD is that CBD hemp does cannot get you high.

Also, unlike THC, it appears that CBD does not actually bind to our internal cannabinoid receptors. Rather, most researchers believe that it works by preventing our personal cannabinoids from being broken down. In particular, it supports the presence of Anandamide in our systems—an endogenous cannabinoid named after the Sanskrit word for “bliss.” This could be a part of the reason that a dose of CBD—in our experience—makes everything feel a bit better.

CBD Tincture and Salve

Tincture Benefits

Taken internally as a tincture, CBD can offer resilience to the daily stressors of life and address acute problems. We use it keep our immune systems robust, to encourage healthy digestive processes, maintain our blood sugar levels, support balanced moods, alleviate acute pain and menstrual cramps, and to help protect our nervous systems. We find it particularly useful as an inflammation modulator and for deep, restful sleep.

Tincture Ingredients

Full-Spectrum CBD Hemp Oil: We grow our CBD hemp with organic best practices in biodiverse fields without plastic mulch. It is then transformed into full-spectrum CBD oil by certified processors and tested by a third party for CBD content, THC content, and environmental contaminants. Once we know that our oil is pure and will result in a product containing less than .3% THC, we combine our CBD oil with the ingredients below.

Organic Coconut Oil: We love coconut oil and it loves us back. We add it to our tinctures because its particular chemical makeup increases CBD’s bioavailability for the whole body.

We work with whole-fruit coconut oil (as opposed to fractionated or MCT) because we believe that—just like full-spectrum CBD oil—whole-plant products offer not only the power of the individual chemical constituents, but the synergistic powers of all the components. Because coconut oil becomes firm when cold, gently warm your tincture bottle in your hands or under warm water and shake well before using.

Salve Benefits

CBD salve is full of other supportive organic oils and waxes, including essential oils distilled by Seth on our farm. These oils all work together to bring relaxation and pain relief to sore muscles and joints. It can help bring mobility to extremities bound by pain and inflammation and relief to overexerted body parts. It’s also a fabulous belly rub for digestive or menstrual cramps.

CBD salve is also beneficial for the skin, itself. Its antimicrobial properties can help prevent infection, and the soothing oils in it promote skin health and recovery. We love to use it as a relaxing night cream.

Because full-spectrum CBD oil is made with all the oils, terpenes, and other constituents of the hemp plant, it carries the sweet and spicy aroma of it. Combined with the essence of our shade-giving friends, these salves transport you right to the center of our dreamy farm surrounded by evergreen forests. And that’s some wellness magic all its own.

Salve Ingredients

Full-Spectrum CBD Hemp Oil: We grow our CBD hemp with organic best practices in biodiverse fields without plastic mulch. It is then transformed into full-spectrum CBD oil by certified processors and tested by a third party for CBD content, THC content, and environmental contaminants. Once we know that our oil is pure and will result in a product containing less than .3% THC, we combine our CBD oil with the ingredients below.

Organic Coconut Oil: We love coconut oil because it loves us. Its creamy texture helps create a luscious body balm. Because human skin loves to absorb it, coconut oil is an excellent way to deliver CBD and other herbal allies deep into our target areas.

Coconut oil firms up when it’s cool and softens when it’s warm, so the texture of your salve may vary a bit as the temperature around it changes.

Organic Apricot Kernel Oil: After trying out several supportive oils, we decided to include organic apricot kernel in our salve for many reasons. It’s a light oil that balances out the richness of coconut perfectly, and it absorbs into our skin with no residue. It is often compared to almond oil in its awesomeness, but we prefer it because folks with nut allergies can reap its benefits.

Apricot kernel oil is powerful stuff yet suitable for even the most sensitive skin. On its own, it is said to support the wellness of our skin. Combined with CBD and coconut oil, it’s part of a powerful posse of wellness superstars!

Organic Beeswax: Beeswax’s main function in our salve is to give it its semi-solid, creamy consistency. But it’s got its own wellness magic!

Incense Cedar Essential Oil (optional): This oil is steam-distilled by Seth from trees trimmed for fire protection on our land and nearby forests. It glows green and smells like bright summer days in the mountains.

At home in the wet forests of the Pacific Northwest, cedar has traditionally been used to support the skin's wellbeing. And we find that the aroma, alone, clears our minds and relaxes our bodies.

Douglas Fir Essential Oil (optional): Our Douglas Fir essential oil has a mystical bluegreen shimmer, a lime-bright aroma, and is steam distilled by Seth in our barn. Douglas Fir is one of the most present trees in our Northwest forests and its superpowers are many.

Like Incense Cedar, Douglas Fir has traditionally been used for first applications. It has also historically been used as a chest rub, so choose this one if you and your people are prone to winter funks.
