Hello beautiful ones,

How does this mid-December afternoon find you?

It finds me in the loft of the new-to-us strawbale cottage Seth and I just moved into after nearly two years in a camping trailer, a backpacking tent and a barn for a year before that, and a 300-square foot cabin without running water before that. Now we have hot running water, an actual bedroom, AND a wood stove! And I’m DELIGHTED that it is cool and rainy so I have a good excuse to plug in the sparkle lights and keep a hot fire going while Seth hunts down the feral cow that is tearing up the farm fields.

And though the joy I’m experiencing is bone deep, there’s grief in here, too. Like so many folks, I will not be with my family for Christmas this year. It’s the first time in my 44 years that I will miss celebrating in full glory with them, and I will miss them indeed. We’ll have some lively Zoom sessions, of course, but you know it’s just not the same. If you’re in the same boat, my heart aches with yours. Let’s grieve and be in joy and love and beauty all at once together. Let’s stretch ourselves wide enough to hold it all.
