California Poppy

California Poppy in the Applegate Valley of Southern Oregon

You may know California Poppy (Eschscholzia californica) as the bright sunshiny flower that bedazzles Western highways and roadsides, or the one growing on the dry hills above your town. Long before I knew it as an herbal ally, California Poppy flowers inspired excited shouts from me every time they appeared in the spring. They still do.

We harvest our California Poppy at home and on the side of a ridge in the Applegate Valley of Southern Oregon. Our harvest often takes place during the golden hour just before sunset when the hillside is covered in poppy's gold and the explosive purple of lupine. All that beauty is in our tincture, too.

Historic Uses of California Poppy

California Poppy is beloved by many as a mild sedative and effective sleep aid suitable for children and strong enough for adults. It supports the nervous system by calming agitation and relaxing the nervous heart. Taken in larger quantities, California Poppy can bring relief from pain.

We work with the whole plant, including root, leaves, stem, and flower. This preparation maximizes the efficacy of our formulas. Try it with Lemon Balm and Motherwort for a grounding and uplifting blend.
